Life-Link Friendship Schools was founded in 1987 by Hans Levander, a medical doctor based in Uppsala, Sweden. He worked at the forefront of a worldwide movement for peace and the elimination of nuclear weapons.

Since then, the program has been expanded to include Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Life-Links philosophy is based on the following values, “The 3 Cs”:

-        Care for Myself

-        Care for Others

-        Care for Nature

The main purpose of the organization is to instil belief in the future among youth, and to give them a sense of higher purpose and direction in life, while doing good things for their community or their school.

Life-Link also aims to foster intercultural understanding and relations.

Today, the organization is comprised of 96 member schools spread across 32 countries all over the world.

Each year, Life-Link hosts an international conference wherein teachers and students from member schools around the world gather to take part in workshops and activities centred around sustainability and peacebuilding.
