Containing COVID-19

In connection with the situation that is happening in our world, namely the pandemic and the spread of coronavirus, our school has taken certain security measures.

First of all, we equipped our school's classrooms with masks in the form of decorations.This is quite convenient for those who do not have a mask at home. You can just take it from the ceiling. Also we have equipped our classrooms with antiseptics that are used by every person who enters the room.

Additionally every person who enters the school approaches the guard who measures the students temperature. Teachers also have personal protective equipment as masks and gloves. Last but not least the class contains purifier of air, which is important for containing the spread of the virus.

Waste Seperation

Youth For Change Educational Centre

6 Students of Youth for Change Educational Centre – school located in Kumasi – Ghana, have decided to embark on waste separation initiative to help save mother nature. Indiscriminate disposal of waste is a widespread problem in Ghana. Among the waste are plastics which are causing so much havoc to destruction of our fertile farm lands, animals, air pollution, etc.

The students from 10 th November decided to serve as ambassadors of change, labeled two (2) containers and placed them in their classroom. By this, they encouraged their friends to do same and avoid indiscriminate littering in the classroom and the school at large.

It is our hope that, the separated items will be reused for other purposes including using the
plastic bags for nursing of flowers for replanting at the school, the papers can also be used as part of composting which could be used as fertilizer to the school’s flowering pots.

It’s our hope that we will continue with this education at home and encourage others to take this responsibility to help safe Mother Nature.

When school resume in full session from January 2021, we will continue with this initiate to bring about change to ourselves, change to others and save mother nature.

Orchard at school and at work

Teachers Patricia Eloy and Gladys Hernández did carry out a project from 2019 to 2021 “Orchard at School and at home”. It was organised together with students from the fourth grade of Primary education to the eighth grade receiving support from parents, school assistants, specialists from the University, and CONAF (Institution).

From 2019 to 2020 it was possible to obtain seedlings and then start planting in the school garden and at home. Since March 2020 due to the Pandemic, students have been cultivating at home in the garden or pots, growing plants of corn, tomatoes, bell peppers and ornamental plants. They are sending photos and reports to teachers via the internet and this will continue in 2021.

The teacher Roberto Parra has trained a group of Life-Link students to be prepared in case of an unexpected accident. Especially to be prepared for earthquakes because the city of Arica is highly sensitive to seismic shocks. In the photos you can see the practical classes carried out with the support of teacher Mr. Parra, expert in first aid. The group received training for several months so they are able to help the school and community members in case of emergency.

Healthy Food & Healthy Eating Habits

Liceo Artistico -Arica- Chile teacher Roberto Parra has been teaching to his 33 students to learn healthy eating habits since the beginning of the Corona Pandemic. They have learned to wash their hands and food when cooking or preparing the food. Currently they are passing on information gained to other students of school via online workshops.

Youth for Change Education

Also in Ghana the corona virus strikes. The government in Ghana is reopening education institutions in phases. All schools were closed in March, only final year students were allowed in late June to prepare for their exit exams and they completed that 18th of September. Now, only second year students of junior high school class will be allowed from 5th October to 10th December. All the other grades will begin next year in January. 

We are taking advantage, because of the low crowds, to nurse plants and also plant flowers in the school. Plans are also advanced in going into farming to support the school. 

World Environmental Day

Coinciding with 5 june 2020, Al-Ghadir Educational Complex celebrated the World Environment Day by adopting green management policies and promoting environmental concerns for students.

Al-Ghadir School students, along with the principals and teachers of the complex, defended the day by planting saplings in the green space around the school and holding a rally with placards carrying environmental slogans.

Al-Ghadir School, a member of the International Life-Link Foundation, has already defined several events as a priority of its programs to honor the environment of this unique human heritage.

Now, despite the special circumstances created by the Coronavirus, Al-Ghadir's large family has decided to consider this international event as a public duty to protect its human habitat, given the restrictions and the observance of health protocols.
