Ecological Culture and Ecological Trail

Recently, our school held a lesson on theme "Contact with nature". We had a talk about the concept of ecological culture and its components.

Ecological culture is an ability of people to use their enviromental knowledge and skills in everyday life. We also learned what the ecological trail means. Ecological trail is a route on the terrain equipped for environmental education purposes. Pupils learned about the ecological routes that exist in our city and studied their components.

Well, that was a very interesting lesson and now our pupils really want to visit one of the ecological route.

International Day of Action for Rivers

Al Ghadir School

AL-Ghadir Educational institute, in continuation of its programs which are held to raise the stage of students' familiarity with the environment, on March 14, 2021, Coinciding with the International Day of Action for conservating Rivers, celebrated this international event on the Karun River in Khorramshahr city.

This event was attended by international guests, local officials, environmentalists, school students, AL-Ghadir teaching staff, and some  of students' parents.

Mr. Khaled Fartousi, the director of Al-Ghadir Educational institute stated: AL-Ghadir School as a member of the Life-Link Friendship Schools, has put the issue of the environment at the top of its educational schedule since Karun river passes thriugh the middle of  Khorramshahr.


He added: " The Karun River can be called the vital vessel of the city, but this river is not only an environmental issue, but it is also a part of the culture and history of these people. " The Karun River is a part of the historical memory of this city, so any action to protect this river is not only to protect geography, but it is also to protect history and culture."


This ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Dong, an environmental activist from China, Dr. Ahmadzadeh, Director of Education Department of Khorramshahr city. Regarding the development of human urban culture, school students became acquainted with the interaction of humans and rivers, as well as the damage that has been happened to the natural route of rivers throughout history. And also the importance of protecting rivers as a vessel of human life was emphasized.


At the end of the ceremony, the guests symbolically cleaned parts of the Karun riverbank and collected the garbage on the coast.

Water Conservation

Water is a precious, essential and an abiotic component of the ecosystem. Today we all are heading towards the scarcity of water. This is mainly because of the lack of water conservation and pollution of water bodies. In an effort to harvest a better future, the school has a functional Rain Water harvesting system.  Rainwater harvesting systems for school are great for educating children about the benefits of conservation of our natural resources. They save money by not wasting water, and help to encourage an environmentally responsible attitude in the next generation. Rainwater is a relatively clean and absolutely free source of water. Water Management in the school

  • Awareness among the students through different activities & campaigns for minimum use of water.

  • Rain water harvesting system to recharge the underground water level.

  • Total water use round the year is = Approximately 5042970 L.

  • Rain water harvesting system recharge = Approximately 30,58,219 L.

  • Percentage of annual water demand of the school is being met by recycled water is 60.64 %.

Dentistry as a Science

On February 2, in our school, students of the 11th grade of the chemical and biological profile held an interactive conference "Dentistry as a science”/”Rules of hygiene of the oral cavity " for first-grade students.

First, the conference was host by a student of the 11th grade, Nikolay Kazetov, presented a very useful and informative presentation about the anatomy of the maxillofacial region, the structure of the teeth and the functions of the maxillofacial system.


Also, our young doctors held two games with first-graders, during which the children determined which food is useful and harmful to the teeth.


Students of the 11th grade also explained how to properly brush your teeth and take care of the oral cavity.
All the participants of the conference liked this format of lections very much. The students not only shared useful information with the children, but also improved their knowledge.

COVID-19 opportunities

Youth For Change Education

In Ghana, Government officially reopened all schools last week for academic work to continue after 10 months of closure because of COVID-19. 

Schools had a big challenge in managing the children under COVID-19 preventive measures. YFC is no exception. But am happy to report that, the lessons learnt from the last seminar has influenced our way of taking certain actions differently from the normal trend. 

First, the flowers we planted during the COVID-19 school closures have blossom and the kids are so happy to see that transformation and have taken it upon themselves to do the watering of them every morning. 

Secondly, the school is working on a waste separation agenda. Three containers are available in the school. One to collect plastic bottles (blue) , one to collect sachet rubbers from water (yellow ) and last one for collection of burnable trash (papers, toffee wrappers etc)  This has tremendously improved the cleanliness of the school. We hope to use the sachet rubbers for recycle products soon. 

Regarding the plastic bottles, I’m happy we have already started reusing them as water bottles for the students, because they are not suppose to share cups or bottles in the school as a COVID preventive measure. In addition, some of the bottles are used as liquid soap containers for handwashing. 

Lastly, we have announced the formation of Life-Link ambassadors project - the ambassadors will help with waste separation and a proper disposal agenda in the school. The school hopes to present a prize to them if they are able to achieve zero littering in their classrooms by mid April.

Aiding Risk Groups In Our Community

Sigtuna Skolan Humanistiska Läroverket

During this unprecedented time, many in our communities around the world have been forced to change their lifestyles and be careful when performing seemingly harmless tasks such as grocery shopping. Many have been forced to completely distance themselves from society for fear of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Sigtuna, Sweden there is a group called FRG (Frivilliga Resurs Gruppen or voluntary recourse group). FRG are an organisation consisting of volunteers who help out in crises such as this pandemic. They have set up a system to deliver food and other items to risk groups in Sigtuna who are not able to shop on their own.

On 11th November students at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket (SSHL), in Sigtuna, Sweden met with a representative from FRG at the local grocery store to learn the procedure and complete a few orders. Two orders were completed and delivered out into Sigtuna by the volunteers. This effort has been continued throughout 2020 and we are persisting in our efforts even now in 2021. We hope to continue this work for as long as there is a need in Sigtuna.

It is important that we make efforts to aid those in our communities who are in need around the world. Caring for others is a central pillar of the Life-Link ethos and is a vital part of society. The purpose of this continuous action is to help those in need in our local community and develop new skills within the students at our school.

Home Gardening

Escuela D-4 Arica

School D4 Arica- Chile with teachers Patricia Eloy and Gladys Hernandez and students carried out home gardening during the Covid pandemic. Students learned through Internet to grow and take care for seedlings and small plants. They learned how to grow and start their own orchard.

Students sended photos, videos and self made verses in spanish. Additionally they wrote messages about taking care for their own orchard and environment in general.

  

Energy Saving Day

As part of the energy Saving Day, environmental lessons for the International energy saving day "Save the climate by saving energy and resources " were held at school № 684 "Bereginya". A mini-conference was held - the children prepared a story with a presentation in grades 9-11 on energy and resource conservation, exchanged views, and an interesting dialogue took place: "What is in our power to save resources and energy".


Separate waste collection, quizzes, exhibitions of posters and drawings were organized in different schools. A detailed story was told about plastic and its impact on the environment by students in grades 6. Waste paper collection en plastic collection was organized. Also an open lessons was conducted: "What is the separate collection of waste?».


During the lessons, it turned out that a partial sorting of solid waste is carried out in each family: useful things are transferred to other people or find secondary use in the family for toys or clothes. In some courtyards where the families participate in the live lessons, there are containers for general garbage collection and a special container for collecting plastic.

During the pauze, the lights were turned off in the classrooms, and the electricity was turned off in the corridors during lessons. This fulfills the recommendations of students after research projects "Save energy" and '“Energy saving is everyone's business”. These projects where developed on November 11th, in grades 7-11, during the biology class under the guidance of teacher Ivanova.

Students of 11A presented a social project of the volunteer movement "Ready for Good". The project is aimed at broad involvement of young people, schoolchildren in the atmosphere of life, where elderly and lonely people, veterans, seriously ill people, disabled people, orphans need their help and moral support.

The relevance of the creation of the volunteer movement "Ready for Good" is that it promotes:

  • formation of a wothy lifestyle for every person;

  • formation of the child’s life positions;

  • formation of a valued attitude to the social conditions of human life;

  • development of the ability to make an individual choice of housing.

Promotion and work on energy and resource conservation still continues at our school.
